There is a fine line between a home looking like it is a model home with everything too matchy matchy and then there is the home that looks like you put everything that your eyes took hold of into your home and it has become a mish mash of just stuff!
The way to make a house look pulled together and at the same time have a warmth about it that speaks of your personality is to plan it out like the professionals.
Figure out your style and color palette. Start with that and then have a shopping plan for which items you need. Then carry your inspiration, color palette and shopping list with you and stay focused. Try to only purchase things that you can return if it should not work out.
Make sure to always mix in the old items with the new as this brings interest and warmth to a room.
Try to keep in mind that color and pattern should be scattered around the room to bring balance and harmony and add interest to your eye.
Edit your room. Sometimes it is good to pull most stuff or even everything out of a room and start layering back elements so you can have a clean slate. Bring in a friend or family member that you respect and trust to give you f new perspective on your room.
I can't emphasize that it is well worth your investment to bring in a professional designer, even if it is for an hour consultation that has an experienced value and a beautiful eye on design that can advise you and point you in the right direction.
Also, it is in the final details of accessorizing and art that will finish off your space. The details count!
